The maintenance of the engine
The basis of good maintenance is ... cleaning! But that is another question and then imagine that you have the engine clean: there laid out on a table and begin to disassemble the smallest details.
The saying "as long as the boat goes ..." will be applied only to the carburetor in the sense that if it works well, it is better to let it stand without even changing the O-ring. The only care that you may have, is to put a piece of pipe into the mixture from the carburetor and blow several times to remove any small residues of dirt inside.
This done, we pass to the engine which will need our full attention: take away the head cooling cap sottotesta and then marched by the shirt by placing a finger housings inside.
If this is difficult (sometimes shirts are mounted a little 'too precise), we can overcome pulled the plastic tape from the exhaust and turn the flywheel clockwise so that the band is a lever between the piston and the shirt without miss anything.
When finished, remove the crankshaft, the connecting rod and piston.
At this point we need to check the wear of internal parts, with a gauge measuring the decimal button biella: if it is very old (the maximum allowed is 4 cents from the original), to replace the crankshaft in order to avoid sbiellate safe.
But we must point out that in the latest generation of engines, this occurs only after several hours of work.
As for the rod, the measurement of wear shows a little 'complicated and requires precision instruments that usually are only found in the workshops of the manufacturers. So the best thing to do to avoid trouble, is to change the rod every 3-4 hours.
We arrived as to the piston-shirt.
If the engine did not show considerable loss of power and the piston, pushing it inside his shirt, comes out from the top, you can easily replace. But first check on the piston that there are strange signs such as a filament of a small candle burning or streaking aluminum plating on the shirt: the signal would be a small seizure occurred during an "emaciated". In this case it is advisable to replace the coupling.
Finally, we control the bearings of the crankcase: Just run with a finger pushing the bearings on the inner ring: If you feel the ball "croak" should replace them.
To do this properly, you must heat the casing with a flame, or better yet, with an electric warming plate. With the casing reaches the ideal temperature in just a few minutes, the bearings will come out with a simple tap on the table (preferably wooden) without the need for various extractors or gadgets that could easily damage the inside of the housings.
To put the new bearings, there is marketing a very effective tool, with which just two small hammer blows and the game is made (even better if it is done with the casing still warm).
We finished. At this point we can reassemble everything with great care and oliando all parties doing a lot of attention, as mentioned above, the cleaning and then make sure that no impurities remain in our engine, at this point, it will be ready to live a second youth.
